I watched Down with Love (
IMDb)
It's a very nicely stylized movie, situated in the 1960's New York, about a writer (Renee Zellweger) who writes a book called "Down with Love", urging women to stop acting demure and start acting like a man, in other words "say goodbye to love and hello to sex!"...It becomes a major bestseller and every man is being bossed around by women...A hotshot journalist (Ewan McGregor) decides to kick up some dirt and sets out to seduce Zellweger in order to write a story in which he reveals that the author of "Down with Love" herself, wants nothing more than love and marriage...
So far, so good...
Then there are some things happening that crash down the film like a plane without wings...a really stupid twist of the plot, which in my eyes unravels every bit of the story which was so nicely made...it becomes a kind of "I-knew-that-you-would-this-so-I-did-something-so-you-would-do-that" farce...really cheap and with a little insight in crafting a proper story, this movie would have been in my top 15 of romantic comedies...
So, in short:
- it looks really nice and has a 1960's feel to it that is spot on
- it crashes down like a drunken bird about 10 minutes to the end
- despite the wack ending, it's still worth watching, because the rest of the film is really nice
- if you watch it, you can always use this movie as a referential to a movie with a lot of potential, which was killed by a poorly written plot
I'd say: 6.5 out of 10
