Lost scenes from the classic sci-fi film Metropolis have been shown for the first time in decades.

The long-lost original cut of Fritz Lang's 1927 silent film was discovered in the archives of the Museum of Cinema in Buenos Aires earlier this year.

The museum's Paula Felix-Didier said it was the only copy of the complete film. Metropolis depicts a 21st Century society divided between a class of underworld workers and the "thinkers" above who control them.

Soon after its initial release at the height of Germany's Weimar Republic, distributors cut Lang's three-and-a-half-hour masterpiece into the shorter version since viewed by millions worldwide.

But a private collector carried an original print to Argentina in 1928, where it has stayed, Felix-Didier said.

'Overjoyed'

In the 1980s, Argentine film fanatic Fernando Pena heard about a man who had propped up a broken projector for "hours" to screen Metropolis in the 1960s - but the version of the film he knew was only one-and-a-half hours long.

For years, he begged the Buenos Aires' museum to check their archives for the man's longer version.

This year, museum researchers finally agreed and in April uncovered the reels in the museum's archive.

Metropolis
The scenes were shown for the first time to a group of journalists

In June, Felix-Didier flew with a DVD to the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation in Wiesbaden, Germany, which owns the rights to Metropolis. They confirmed that the extra scenes were from the original.

"We were overjoyed when we heard about the find," Helmut Possmann, head of the foundation, told Reuters.

"We no longer believed we'd see this. Time and again we had had calls about supposed footage but were disappointed."

Around 20 to 25 minutes of footage that fleshes out secondary characters and sheds light on the plot would be added to the film pending restoration, Possmann said, but around 5 minutes of the original was probably still missing.

Released in 1927, the silent film was not a commercial success and nearly ruined the studio behind it.

Soon after its premiere, the movie was heavily cut to make it more accessible, and several new versions of varying lengths emerged.

"The film hasn't left the museum and it won't leave until the city government and the Murnau Foundation decide what to do," Felix-Didier said.

well maybe i should change my lastname in Lang too then Wink

about the reviewing, i dont like it too much, im just not as good in it as like ponologic or zeehond or labrat or even you, so i will leave that too you and the others cause yes you funny little guys are doing really so good, everyone is doing just excepeptionally great if you ask me! I would almost say it's unbelievably magnificent, well: why almost?

everyone keep up this good work! (tschakka!!)

And me? I just like to do the games Wink Smile

(the only negative point i have to make is that they only review such really bad, simple, mind-numbing, cheap, crappy, classless, class B horibly disgusting horror movies , not everyone can have such a delicate taste as me and appriatte only the best quality (so that's classy class A+ movies)

some people just like blood, puke, exploding body's, flesh eating vaginas and i dont know what.)
But I need something more sophisticated and really intelectual and philsopical and deep and with a meaning and... and ... and...
its just that i prefer the best of the best and nothing less, cause only that's what's good enough for me.For me nothing but the nose of the salmon...

please note:

the following information should be read careful and with as much concentration as possible (read twice if neccesary):

no offense can be taken from this whatsoever, things said or written in this post dont represend the opinion of anyone but me and even this last thing isn't true
Nothing is allowed to be misintrepreted in any kind of (im)possible imaginable way without permision of the admin or an moderator.

Even though this post is totally lacking of smilleys and other emoticons, there can not be any complaints whatsoever about this, that or anything else. Ever.

It's all just a joke, really believe me, ok its not funny, but it was ment to be, ok hard to believe, i can understand, but really believe me: i'm not kidding...
(the i'm not kidding in the last frase (obviously) refers to the its just a joke part that was serious, the rest of this all is bullshit and/or crap)

anyway

all you people keep on doing what you want, post nice movie reviews, play one of the many fabulous games we have here on this forum, keep people updated on the latest inside hotnews movienews and well whatever. If we all do that then there is no doubt that we can all together as one enjoy this marvelous one of a kind movie forum for ever and ever and ever....

and maybe one day you'll even get so lucky and i'll make some shitty review about a wonderful movie I've seen, and would like you all to know about. Untill that day comes you've to do it without, if thats too hard for you and you really want to get to know what movies i watch, you can do the following: go to my profile click on the link and see my imdb listing of dvds i have and have seen, if you see anything you like you can click on the title and you'll be directed to that moviesw page on imdb were you can find lots of review, trivia and other intresting information. If this all is not enough for you and you are dying for any personal comment from me on a particular movie, you can sent me an personal message at any time stating whatever you wish to hear from me (for example: you could ask: Toffetomas, i hear from everyone that .... is such a great movie and that i should watch it, but before i do watch it and invest my precious time in watching this movie, i would like what you, as a moviemaster, think of this. ( I will probably reply to you as soon as possible in a real friendly and nice manner, like this: although everyone advices this to you, i would listen to me, dont watch it, its crap. watch Following or Memento instead, no matter if you saw them already or not.

I would say one last thing to you all and i want you to listen good when i do, i would like to give you all the following advice:
take good care of yourself and others (including me)

nothing to see here, please carry on....
