V For Vendetta (IMDb)
V For Vendetta - James McTeigue (2005) Mv5bnte4mda0mtm0nf5bml5jc3

Quote :
People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

Quote :
In the not too distant future, Britain is filled with torture cells, unfair punishments, prejudice against minorities. However in the mist of all this chaos, one man known only by the name V dares to stand up to the government and is labeled as a terrorist. One night V rescues a mild young woman called Evey Hammond and an unlikely bond between the two emerges which results with Evey becoming Vs ally. But though V may be charismatic and have a passion for justice he also is bitter and has his own personal hatred of the government for something they did to him long ago. As November the 5th, the day V says he and those who will follow him will stand up to the government once and for all approaches, Detective Finch becomes more and more determined to uncover the truth about V, however his search leads him to ask to question whether or not he is on the right side.
Quote :
Adapted from David Lloyd's graphic novel of the same name, "V for Vendetta" tells the story of Evey Hammond and her unlikely but instrumental part in bringing down the fascist government that has taken control of a futuristic Great Britain. Saved from a life-and-death situation by a man in a Guy Fawkes mask who calls himself V, she learns a general summary of V's past and, after a time, decides to help him bring down those who committed the atrocities that led to Britain being in the shape that it is in.

Quote :
An amazing feat of Cinema

"Remember, remember, the fifth of November, gunpowder treason and plot. I see no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot."

I've never read the graphic novel, but I don't think you need to read it to appreciate the movie. I saw the film last night at it's World Premiere at the Berlin International Film festival. Though it became a little weighty in the middle (one part seemed to drag a little) other than that it was a great experience. The story was so topical that I got seriously emotional during a lot of parts. Weaving did an excellent job with the mysterious title character "V", creating a poetic, intelligent, and compassionate yet ruthless character. Portman always seems to surprise me, except with her Star Wars character. She portrays tremendous emotional range and transforms completely throughout the movie. This is one of those movies that really sticks in your head long after you watch it though... and it continues to stir and grow.

awesome movie
a vision of the present, mixed with the past, casted in a surreal way over a near future
very strong images, strong story, very layered movie
filled with symbolical references and so on

this one comes highly recommended Smile

8.8/10 =)

Ok, well, I wont agree with this one
Maybe it was my state of mind when I saw it, could be....

But I really didn't like it No
I find it really super hero cliche and thought the dialogues were really flat, cliche and anowing

But again, maybe I should watch it again (not sure if I will Rolling Eyes )

anowing ? Smile

i understand what u mean

it's a big movie, but the underlying elements were quite layered and thought through imo

it's somekind of manifest against specific things in politics and mediatisation

so i didn't pay much attention to the depth in the dialogues itself (probably also cause it had this action kinda tempo innit)

but ok, perhaps i should see it again aswell Wink

probably will Smile

he he well I wouldn't be able to give you specific examples cause I saw it almost 2 years ago or something but I just remember having that feeling of been totally annoyed by them Very Happy and thinking they were really really cliche...
But then again, it was after a party weekend, not much sleep.... could have been my state of mind but they were annoying (yes, I spelt it wrong Razz )

I really liked V for Vendetta yess

Think the superhero aspect of it wasn't that big an issue for me...but it's been some time since I've seen it...

I bought it recently, so when I watch it again I'll give it a proper review, for now: 8/10
